The leading legal awards celebrating excellence in Wales
Celebrating legal excellence in Wales
Established in 2019 by Lux Family Law, the Wales Legal Awards celebrate the success of those teams practising in and providing services to the legal profession in Wales.
The nominations are judged by an expert, independent panel of judges from across the sector, including representatives from The Law Society Gazette, Presidents of regional law societies in Wales and Thomson Reuters. Once a shortlist is created, our judges take the time to interview each shortlisted team or individual to identify the category winners.
Our judging panels comprises a diverse range of highly experienced and peer-regarded individuals in their field who each offer a unique perspective and point of reference when assessing nominations and interviewing those shortlisted.
Categories include corporate and commercial law, real estate law, private client, residential and conveyancing law, employment law and commercial litigation.
Covid-19: our approach
“Now more than ever we need to celebrate the legal sector across the length and breadth of Wales,” Charlotte Leyshon, Co-Founder, Wales Legal Awards.
We’ve been inspired by the number of firms in the Welsh legal community that have stepped up to support each other during these unprecedented times. That’s why the Wales Legal Awards 2020 wants to help.
We want to rally the sector at this challenging time to showcase the extraordinary talent, inventiveness, diversity and success in the sector over the last 12 months and that have been amplified by Welsh legal businesses over the last three weeks.
We’ve been working hard to ensure this year’s awards go ahead to celebrate the achievements of the legal sector in Wales and provide a strong sense of community in uncertain times.
Help us celebrate the outstanding achievements of this year’s finalists by joining us online for our live-streamed virtual awards ceremony on Friday 11th September 2020.

New categories for 2020
This year, the Wales Legal Awards will include five new awards to cater for excellence in economically and socially significant legal specialisms in Wales: Personal Injury team of the year; Public Law Team of the Year; Law firm of the Year and Boutique Law Firm of the Year.
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic and the impact of lockdown on the Welsh legal sector, we’ve also launched a new award: ‘Innovation in response to Covid-19′.
There will also be an overall award for the Welsh Legal Team of the Year, Rising Star of the Year and a special award that recognises one individual’s outstanding contribution to the Welsh legal profession.
We are delighted to introduce our sponsors for this year’s awards, some of which are returning sponsors of the Wales Legal Awards. Our greatest thanks to them all – for their time and support during the year, especially our headline sponsor Yolk Recruitment.
"Yolk is thrilled to be a part of the Wales Legal Awards again this year to celebrate and highlight the exceptional talent we have in Wales."
In light of the restrictions for large-scale events in Wales, the Wales Legal Awards 2020 team has created a new format for our awards ceremony this year. Utilising the latest livestreaming technology, we will be working with event production specialists Genero Productions to broadcast live online on the evening of the awards. This will be free to access upon booking and will ensure that whilst we can’t meet in person, our award finalists and winners will be celebrated in style and to an even greater audience on the night. As well keeping everyone safe and well, our virtual awards ceremony allows us to have a far greater audience that can watch us live on their TV or device. There’s no limit to the number of bookings we can take so all your colleagues and finalists’ friends and family can also watch the live ceremony and see the finalists’ reactions!
This year, as our ceremony will be live-streamed from our Awards Studio, all tickets are FREE. Upon booking, a link will be sent to you so that you can access the live event from 7:30pm via any device.
The fundraising element of the Wales Legal Awards ceremony is incredibly important to us and to our charity of the year, St David’s Hospice Care. We encourage our ‘guests’ and finalists to make donation to help us raise funds for this essential and wonderful charity which needs our help, now more than ever. Donation details will be sent to finalists and to all those who book to attend the free, virtual Wales Legal Awards 2020 ceremony. Donation details will be shared with the event livestream link and will also be made available on the night.
Why not join in the fun and dress up for our Live Streamed Virtual Awards Ceremony? We won't be able to see you (unless you're as Finalist in our Live Lounge) but feel free to send us a picture via Twitter using the hashtag #WLAs2020!

"We’re delighted to support The Wales Legal Awards again in 2020, having seen first-hand (at the 2019 awards) the strength and innovation of the legal sector in Wales. It’s also a fantastic time for us to be able to further collaborate with leading practitioners in Wales, as we have recently launched our new Pension on Divorce expert service which we believe will be extremely beneficial to our legal connections."
